Australian grocer Harris Farm Markets has opened a new flagship store at Darby Street, Newcastle. The store is a 1,200 square metre market, one of the largest Harris Farm has opened in Australia.
Consumers can shop at Maryville’s Uprising Bakery, which adds to the store’s onsite bakery. It has a five-metre BreadFall and Cadre Coffee by Newcastle café and roastery Moor. The café offers toasties and pastries, takeaway meals, house-made tagines and single origin coffee.
“Newcastle has been crying out for a grocery offering to match their tastes,” said Harris Farm Markets co-CEO Tristan Harris. “Newcastle has a wealth of great artisans and we’re combining these local heroes with the best from our neighbourhoods in Sydney, all under one roof. From the Hunter region, the grocery stocks local gourmet labels Rosto Grove, Bacco’s Bakeries and Pukara Estate as well as new brands Kerr’s Kitchen and Adina Vineyard.”
Harris Farm has a wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetables with locally grown and organic produce. It also offers a nut station, a 400-strong cheese selection and 0ower market. In front of the Newcastle store is the fresh seafood section by Lshmongers, the Papacosta family.
Harris Farm Markets also has premium and extensive meat offering, with a cut-to-order butchery and dry- aged meat fridges. Australian producers include Joe Papandrea snags, Northern Rivers craft Salumi, Hazeldene’s Farm chooks, Cape Grim meats, Valenca pork and more.
The Darby Street store features a ‘pour-your-own’ Milk Bar, which offers plenty of milk choices with a rotating single herd milk on tap. The Fairley family mixed breed milk will be available for the opening month. Furthermore, Harris Farm Markets will host a barbecue cook up to raise money for John Hunter Children’s Hospital during its opening weeks.
The grocer has a sustainable and minimal waste philosophy and the Newcastle store is plastic bag free. The Newcastle store is the 21st Harris Farm Market and joins the existing Erina store on the Central Coast.
