Everyone was so keen to see what Harris Farm Markets would deliver for their flagship store on Darby Street, Cooks Hill. Eager locals lined up at the gates from the early hours in the morning. Inside the 1200 square meter store, there was a hive activity as staff were completing the final touches before opening the doors.

The customers were not disappointed. With Harris Farm’s signature farmer-style, there was much for customers to enjoy. With abundant fruit and vegies on offer, Harris Farm Meats butchery, Fresh Seafood by the Papacosta family, “pour-your-own” Milk Bar, 400-strong cheese selection, nut station and flower market, there was much to discover. And if you were feeling a little light-headed after all that excitement, Cadre Coffee came to the rescue with some caffeine.

Local hero, Uprising Bakery, bakes bread daily from “in the sky” on the mezzanine level. Our Breadfall provides a unique connection between baker and customer. The bread is the trophy within the Breadfall, with its industrial design and minimal “nest” construction.

Many of Uprising’s loyal customers, who have tasted their delights at both their Maryville store and local markets, were there in-force on opening day. Looking for the favourites, like the City Loaf, the customers were able to engage and experience the Breadfall.

We enjoyed meeting the customers and discussing how the Breadfall was conceived. It was rewarding seeing the customer’s faces in awe of the Breadfall. Some jaws dropped and others were speechless! Seeing the response was icing on the cake for us.

We like to create playful and practical designs that are underpinned by innovation. We included the “ding” of the bicycle bell, as the bread is dispensed, which has appealed to both the young and the young-at-heart. The bell also has a functional role of letting the bakers know when bread is being dispensed and to refill the empty “nests”.

It took many hands to bring the Harris Farm Market, Cooks Hill project to fruition, and it was rewarding to be one of many! It was great to see this amazing flagship store open for business and experience open day with all its excitement.

We are passionate about our Breadfall and it was invigorating to meet customers with the same level of enthusiasm for our invention. We believe that the success of any design will lie, ultimately with its users. To have an immediate connection to a bespoke design defines the success of a project.
