The ring of a ship bell faintly in the distance is the first clue that something magical is waiting around the corner. The ship bells’ rings are reminiscent of youthful days and begins to put a little smile on people’s faces.
For children, the joy is more instantaneous. With eager anticipation of seeing what, how, why and where. They cannot wait to explore.
Soaring to a height of 6.4 metres, the Mosman Breadfall is revealed as customers meander through the store, experiencing amazing fresh produce and expansive selection of goods. It is with great excitement that we share our Breadfall with Harris Farm’s loyal following in Mosman.
The Mosman Breadfall is our most adventurous design and stretches beyond the boundary of expectations. The Breadfall’s base stands at 3.5 metres high and extends along the ceiling space for 5 metres before finally transcending up into the bakery on the floor above.
Michael Allen - Mosman Store Manager
The Breadfall features a metallic palette of hammered charcoal, burnished bronze and elegant brass. The high-end finishes reflect Harris Farms’ commitment to offering the locals a truly unique shopping experience.
With a utilitarian approach, the Mosman Breadfall design is brought back to the barebones, expressing the framework, revealing componentry and exposing the mechanics for all to see. The result is a theatrical experience with the Grain Bakery’s freshly baked breads showcased.
Michael Allen - Mosman Store Manager
The Mosman Breadfall is made up of a large number of components. Just the framework alone consists of 490 metres of steel with 185 metres of chain. With 5125 screws, 9800 washers, 2250 nuts, 260 bolts and 1100 brass dome nuts, it has been no small feat in assembling the Breadfall. Each and every component has been meticulously put together by hand.
There are multiple points throughout the store journey that the customer can interact with the Breadfall. On the upper floor, customers can see the Grain Bakery load the freshly baked bread onto the Breadfall. With a full height glass balustrading to the Breadfall, one can see the bread slowly descend down to the store below. On the lower level, customers can select their baked item, pull the rope and it is dispensed from the “nest”.
Both the baker’s loading and the customer’s dispensing causes the “nests” to move around the circuit. The moving “nests” can be viewed from all aspects within the store, especially as the customers walk underneath the Breadfall’s bridge to the cashiers’ counters.
Patrick Blacker - Founder
With our small team, care and consideration has been taken on every step of the journey to bring a little mechanical magic to Mosman. Nothing warms our hearts more than to see a child’s sense of accomplishment after pulling the rope, bagging the family’s bread and walking away with a little joy in their step. We are passionate about creating innovative designs that engage and provide an experience that is both truly memorable and enduring.
